The Benefits of Management Training
By Admin | Filed in Management Training | No comments yet.Training is important at all levels within the enterprise, and the management level is no different. In fact, management training can be one of the most important investments any business can make.
The majority of people who arrive in management positions, never followed any formal training in managing people or business. This is because most managers get there through promotion. Thus any training or qualifications they may posses, will generally be in specialised areas such as accountancy, IT, or manufacturing.
Becoming a manager, even within ones area of expertise, still requires a whole new set of skills. Delegation, communication, budgeting, presentation, the manager needs to be adept at all of these, and their career to date may not have equipped them with the necessary skills.
For example, an accountant may be well practised in making presentations, and have excellent communication skills, but they may never have had to delegate work to a team of people. If they move into a management position, this will be a vital skill that they will need to acquire. Good training will be essential.
On the other hand, an IT supervisor may have spent most of their career to date delegating tasks to a team, but may never have had to put together a department budget, or make a presentation to the board. So when they are promoted to management level, they too will require training in these areas.
It’s not just new managers who can benefit from continued training and education though. Even seasoned professionals need to keep up to date with the latest methods and philosophies. Every business should have a management training budget if they intend to remain competitive.
